My video on how to make steak and eggs
The learning purpose of my video is to learn how to make steak and eggs, a hearty breakfast that is normally reserved for weekends but is also quick and easy. One of the core principles that I followed was the multimedia principle of combining words and visuals for better learning and the coherence principle (where I tried to keep everything as concise as possible to prevent cognitive overload). I was thinking about doing a voice-over, but I think using words was a better choice just to help the viewer better understand the steps and due to the fact that I don’t have a good microphone. The video itself is rewindable so viewers can view it at their own pace, something I found very useful in cooking videos. I tried to combine Mayer’s principles to create multimedia content that aligns with UDL guidelines to cater to diverse learners while managing cognitive load effectively.
One of the bigger challenges of capturing my own video was having to film it while needing both my hands, so I got my friend to help me film it in POV style while I did the cooking. I found the editing part the easiest since I have video editing experience before. I think next time, I will be better prepared in terms of props! I was missing butter so I had to use oil instead which I really do not recommend for steak!
My storyboard was more steps than images, as I had a clear idea that I wanted to film it in POV style.
